During the meeting held on 18th April 2016 at PMO directions were given by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India that youth should be mobilized and motivated for their active engagement in Swachta activities e.g. cleanliness of school, college, hospitals and public statues and for making open defecation free villages. Besides, it was also directed that Youth be engaged in water conservation (Pani Bachcho) and water harvesting visible activities.
Objectives
The programme aims at promoting spirit of Sewa Bhav, Nishkam Sewa, volunteerism and cooperation among the members of the youth clubs for creating dirt free, filth free i.e. hygienic and clean surroundings as well as activities for water conservation. The main objectives of the programme are:
- To create awareness among youth about need and importance of Swachhta.
- To focus on water conservation, creation of small Bundhs (Bori Bundh), maintaining ponds, water reservoirs, check dams, and water harvesting activities.
- To link with PM Scheme for developing Ponds and MGNERGA.
- To inculcate a sense of dignity of labour among youth
- To generate values and practices like: Sewa Bhav, Nishkam Sewa, volunteerism, self-help, working together with a e feeling.
The programme has been redesigned and it has following 02 Components:
A) Swachhata Awareness Evam Shramdaan (Swachhata Action Plan)
Objective
- To intensify the focus on cleanliness and create an environment of cleanliness.
- To make the people aware of cleanliness and sanitation.
- To inculcate the spirit of Shramdaan (voluntary labour) with Sewa Bhav, Nishkam Sewa.
- To focus on water conservation, creation of small Bundhs (Bori Bundh), maintaining ponds, water reservoirs, check dams, and water harvesting activities.
B) Swachhata Fortnight (1st to 15th August, 2018)
Objective
- To create awareness about swachhta and facilitate implementation across the country
- To motivate youth in taking a lead role for undertaking cleanliness & hygiene campaign by mobilizing local resources
